As part of our Independent Advice and Guidance offer at Redwood we held our Future Pathways Evening here at the school on Wednesday 14th November.
The aim of this evening was to bring representatives from local provision together to enable parents and carers of all pupils at the school to see for themselves the many options available to pupils after finishing their Year 11 at Redwood.
On the evening itself parents and carers were able to discuss the different aspects of provision available with a wide range of local providers. All the local colleges including Highbury, South Downs, and Portsmouth College were represented along with adult social care and Lily and Lime who run supported internships. We recognise that having the opportunity for pupils and their families to discuss the range of opportunities on offer and the different levels of support that can be provided is hugely valuable to ensure that the best choice can be made for each of our young people so that they can continue to make excellent progress once they move on from Redwood at the end of Year 11.
The Future Pathways evening is only one strand in how we support transition to further education. Information is made available for all parents and carers containing key things to consider including the dates of college open days. Each family also has multiple opportunities to meet at the school with our Careers Guidance adviser to discuss the possible routes forward and these options are discussed at pupils’ EHCP reviews. As a school we also arrange college visits for pupils in Year 11 so that they can experience the college environments for themselves and so they can see what the future beyond Redwood actually looks like!
