5 of our pupils chose to take part in Redwood Citizen Service during the second half of their final term
All the rest of the pupils took part in the National Citizen Service. The purpose was to help the pupils prepare for the next stage in their lives, both out of school and as part of their transition to college. There was a big focus on developing skills for independence, life skills and social skills. They also spent time in the local community finding out more about the area in which they live and also travelling as independently as possible.
This year they took part in various day trips including Gosport, a trip to the Isle of Wight, and Staunton Country Park. They had a great time and became increasingly independent during those 4 weeks. In addition the group planned and carried out their own personal projects which they loved doing, some made animated videos, pictures of their dogs made from natural resources found whilst out in the community and writing stories. The group also fundraised, planned and delivered a really successful afternoon tea party for parents, carers and family members before the Redwood Park Summer Show. They had a great time and learnt lots of different skills that have helped them to prepare for their futures.
